Pilates is an effective, efficient, full-body workout that is based on the core principals of alignment, stability, and breath.

Our goal at Core Pilates on 17th is to encourage individuals to develop their mind-body awareness. We aim to create a welcoming environment, inviting the community to experience our wide range of course offerings. Pilates is a happy medium between a rigorous gym workout and calming, meditative movement. Pilates utilizes resistance, which builds strength without adding bulk, streamlining the target muscle group. It also utilizes repetition, which facilitates muscle memory that will persist well beyond your hour-long Pilates session. Pilates is a rigorous mental exercise that will facilitate your ability to isolate and intensely focus on particular muscle groups. In this way, Pilates brings about a heightened awareness of the body that improves students' performance in all of their physical activities.

Our experienced instructors support their students' personal goals, bringing physical awareness, fitness, and alignment into each client's life. They have developed their own array of specializations and teaching styles, and each private and group class is tailored to students' needs and requests. Our instructors' backgrounds as dancers, personal trainers, sports medicine specialists, athletes, and outdoor adventure enthusiasts make our staff creative, well-rounded, and knowledgeable. They will accommodate special populations, clients interested in rehabilitation, elite athletes, and first-time students.

Since October 2006, Core Pilates on 17th has been offering Pilates certification through the Manhattan-based Pilates Academy International. This rigorous, but flexible program was designed to create capable, well-rounded Pilates instructors who can address each client?s individual needs and goals. The certification process begins with a mandatory Anatomy and Biomechanics intensive, after which instructor trainees may select the Pilates mat or equipment modules of their choosing and proceed at their own pace. This certification can be completed in group, semi-private, or private training modules. PAI and our instructor trainers are committed to teaching their trainees to be confident, skillful instructors who thoroughly understand the theory, practice, and business of Pilates.

The facility is a modern, 2,000 square foot space with floor-to-ceiling mirrors and a full range of equipment: five professional reformers, two Cadillac tables, five split-pedal chairs, a ladder barrel, and a spine corrector, as well as a variety of small equipment for group instruction. Core Pilates on 17th is in the sun-drenched, lively Mission district, conveniently located steps from garage parking and public transportation. We look forward to working with you!
