Programs

Pregnancy Fitness Program

The Pregnancy Fitness Program will help you address the needs of your rapidly changing body; gain flexibility; strengthen your body for labor and delivery with resistance work; relieve stress through breathing, relaxation, and visualization techniques; and eliminate common pregnancy complaints like backaches. The program consists of private, duet, and group training sessions. We recommend participating in one group class per week and either a private session, duet session, or home practice.

Postpartum Rehabilitation Program

Our Postpartum Rehabilitation Program will strengthen the body safely and with no impact, which is crucial in protecting the pelvic floor. The abdominal exercises are designed with consideration for a separation of the recti muscles, and specific exercises are intended to realign and strengthen the spine. Rebuild endurance and stamina lost during the months of pregnancy, gain flexibility and suppleness, strengthen the body with resistance work, and eliminate common postnatal complaints like backaches.

The program consists of private and duet training sessions.

Postpartum Rehabilitation
Our Postpartum Rehabilitation program will incorporate work on the ball, the reformer, and the mat. The sessions will concentrate on strengthening and toning key areas like the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles. Infants under the age of one year are invited to watch the session from their strollers, car seats, or play mats, and mothers are welcome to tend to their needs as necessary.

Cardiolates®

A total body workout that is fun, fat-burning, and core strengthening, all in one.

Enjoy the cardiovascular and health benefits of rebounding combined with the core-strengthening and aligning benefits of Pilates!

We all know cardiovascular activity is essential for both the health of our hearts and the maintenance of lean body mass. But most of us hate it! We, too, had always forced ourselves to do cardio, and many of our clients at Pilates on Fifth have expressed the same sentiment. Clients say they feel they need to do cardio to lose the “layer of softness” (a nice way of saying fat!) that conceals the beautiful muscles they have toned and sculpted with Pilates.

Searching for a form of cardio we could recommend to our clients, we developed CARDIOLATES®. We knew we needed to find a method of cardio that reinforces Pilates’ alignment principles and optimal posture, but typical forms of cardio tend to derail them. Because rebounding combines the forces of acceleration, deceleration and gravity, it strengthens every cell in your body. So, we thought, by rebounding with careful attention to alignment and posture, every cell of the body can be strengthened in the body's optimal alignment! The CARDIOLATES® rebounding technique focuses on maintaining the body's vertical axis and thus strengthens the deep postural muscles in the body's ideal upright alignment.

Most importantly... rebounding with CARDIOLATES® is fun! Children know this instinctively and bounce whenever they have the chance. "Bouncing" is naturally stimulating - we bounce babies in our arms, toddlers on our knees, and most of us loved trampolines (or beds!) through our youth. Rebounding is a healthy and exhilarating way to feel revitalized and get fit. We hope you will look forward to your CARDIOLATES® workout as much as we do every time!

Athletic Training

It's time to take your athletic endeavors to the next level. Pilates can help golfers hit longer drives, triathletes break through plateaus in their training, and kickboxers find strength and stability they never thought possible.

We provide specific workouts designed for a variety of sports and activities. The exercise focus ranges from Iron man triathlons to the competitive martial arts. Through Pilates, you will learn how to stabilize intrinsic musculature and strengthen your core, making your movement more precise and efficient

For the golfer, Pilates practice focuses on the rotation of the torso to improve swing and yardage. It also strengthens the core to improve torque and control. Specific Pilates exercises compliment the attention to detail to shave strokes from the golfer's handicap.

Whatever your sport, we can improve your performance.

Pre-Professional and Professional Dancer Program

Dancers were one of the first populations that Joseph Pilates trained and rehabilitated from injury. Dancers have trusted Pilates to help them improve technique, alignment, and mind-body awareness for nearly a century. Pilates is excellent cross-training for the dancer as a way to prevent injury, maintain a strong healthy body, and feel a greater sense of mind-body connection. No matter where you are in your dance career, Pilates has something to offer. Give yourself the extra edge you need for auditions at the start of your career, or find the balance to help you maintain your current level of fitness. If you are a dancer who has sustained an injury, or if you are experiencing the effects of this rigorous discipline, come and check out what Pilates can do for your body.
